Dörfler's pernambuco bows use only select woods that have been perfectly stored and dried for approximately 30 years. Thanks to its excellent elastomechanical properties, despite its high hardness and density, this wood is the first, or even the only, choice for making high-quality bows.
Pernambuco wood comes from northern and central-eastern Brazil. The tree from which it is extracted is called Caesalpinia echinata, also known as Pau Brasil.
SUSTAINABLE COMMITMENT:
This rare tree species has been listed as a CITES 2* tree since June 2007, meaning that exports are being covered with much greater effort than before. Dörfler is a member of the I.P.C.I. organization, which is committed to reforesting this valuable tree species. However, because the trees grow very slowly, it will take some time before they are suitable for bow making.
